What’s the first thing you do after you check in to a hotel in a foreign country? Unpack? Kick back and relax?
Here’s an idea: While you are still at the desk checking in, grab one or two of the hotel’s business cards.
Most large population centers have English speakers around, but if you find yourself lost or in a position where no one who speaks English is in sight, you have the name of your hotel -- in the local language -- you can show it to a taxi driver or even a local to get directions to your room.
PS: Oh, and having the phone number of the hotel handy won’t hurt either...
PPS: Not a bad idea for local travel either!
